Castelo de São Jorge

Castelo de São Jorge is one of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks, perched on a hill overlooking the historic centre and the Tagus River.

Dating back to the Moorish period and later used as a royal residence after the 12th-century reconquest, the castle offers a strong sense of Lisbon's history through its ancient walls, towers, and courtyards.

Visitors can walk along the ramparts for panoramic views over Alfama's rooftops and the river, and may even encounter the resident peacocks roaming the grounds.
