Feira da Ladra (Flea Market)

Feira da Ladra is Lisbon's oldest and most famous flea market, held in the Alfama district near the National Pantheon. The name roughly translates as the "Thieves' Market", a reference to its long history of second-hand and antique trading.

The market takes place twice a week, traditionally on Tuesdays and Saturdays, filling the Campo de Santa Clara with a lively mix of stalls. Visitors will find everything from antiques, vintage clothing, ceramics and azulejos tiles to books, vinyl records and quirky collectibles. The selection varies each week, which adds to its charm and unpredictability.

Unlike more polished markets, Feira da Ladra has a distinctly local and informal feel. It is as much about browsing and discovering unusual pieces as it is about buying, with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of character.

Set against the backdrop of historic buildings and viewpoints over the Tagus River, it is also a pleasant place simply to wander, especially in the morning. It is best visited early for the widest selection and a more relaxed experience before it gets busy.
