Cristo Rei is a famous monument located just across the river from Lisbon in Almada, on the south bank of the Tagus.

It is best known for its towering statue of Christ with open arms, inspired by Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Visitors come mainly for the panoramic views over Lisbon, the 25 de Abril Bridge, and the river, which are especially impressive at sunset.

It is very easy to visit as a short trip from Lisbon, taking around 15-30 minutes by car or ferry, making it a quick but rewarding half-day excursion.
