Suleymaniye Mosque: A Monument of Ottoman Architecture
Sinan's Ottoman Masterpiece
The Suleymaniye or Mihrimah Mosque in Istanbul, which was built around 1550, is the masterpiece of the greatest Ottoman architect and builder, Sinan. Its classic floor plan of Turkish places of worship, applied to variants on thousands of mosques built from the 15th to the 19th century, was inspired by the Hagia Sophia.
