The History of Chamonix
Once home to a rural population of farmers and small monastery, the valley of Chamonix was brought to the attention of the world by two English explorers, Windham and Pococke. Their literary journals, documenting amazing sights such as the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) drew others to this beautiful place, and when Madame Coutterand opened the first guest house in 1770 its reputation as a holiday destination was established, with luxury hotels soon following in the early 19th century. Two local men, Paccard and Balmat, made the first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786, and Chamonix is now the mountaineering capital of Europe.

Our luxury chalet in Chamonix let you enjoy every aspect of the area, from the lively streets lined with a colourful mix of restaurants, shops, bars and cafés to the Grotte de la Mer de Glace, an ice cave whose frozen tunnels and ice sculptures change colour like mood rings.
If the paragliding, skiing and mountaineering leave you in need of some rest, The Heliopic Spa features a large pool complete with fireplace and swing chairs where you can perch or doze off after a refreshing swim. There is also a tepidarium, banya, ice cave, cold water wells and a Turkish steam bath as well as a wide selection of treatments. You can also simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings from the chalet, relaxing with a hot drink, pleasantly aching bones and tales of your adventures.

Whether you've spent all day leisurely wandering the town or hurtling exhilaratingly down snowy slopes, you can unwind in some truly exquisite restaurants in Chamonix. Le Cascade du Dard is particularly striking, where you will be well rewarded after a walk from Chamonix town by a charming old stone building right next to a spectacular waterfall, serving simple but fresh fare on a flower filled terrace. Albert 1er pairs a treasure trove of a cellar with two Michelin star gastronomic feasts, while Le Panier des 4 Saisons serves authentic Savovarde fare in a semi-formal, wood panelled setting. Whether you are looking for fine dining elegance, rustic charm, or simply to relax with a glass of wine in our luxury chalet, Chamonix has plenty to offer.
