Cote d’Azur

The local area

Synonymous with its seductive romantic glamour, the Côte d'Azur has been attracting the rich, famous, and artistically inclined to its impossibly blue waters since the nineteenth century. Bustling and lively in the sun-soaked summer months, our Côte d'Azur luxury villa is perfectly placed. Only a few kilometres from the French Riviera, in La Garde Freinet, you can relax in the relative quiet of an authentic and charming Provençal town before diving into the whirlwind of buzzing St-Tropez.

The History of Cote d'Azur

This captivating coastline is one of the world's first modern resort areas. Once an unpromising and inhospitable shore that lacked natural harbours, the French Riviera began earning its glamorous reputation when the arrival of a railway bought Europe's aristocracy. Members of the Rothschild family, Queen Victoria and King Edward VII all enjoyed the mild winters and sun drenched summer months here, and celebrities - drawn by the sumptuous hotels and chic surroundings soon followed - all adding their own sense of exclusivity and allure.

The artistic legacy of Picasso, Matisse, Renoir and Chagall, who were enticed by the unique and beautiful light on this coast, adds a cultural richness to the high-end holiday surroundings of the Côte d'Azur.

What to See and Do in Cote d'Azur

Our luxury villa in Cote d'Azur is the perfect home away from home, an ideal location from where you can explore the artistic heritage of this luminous stretch of coastline at your leisure. There's even the convenience of a concierge service to help you plan your stay. Guided tours allow you to visit the towns where artists painted, while the Picasso Museum and Museé Renoir are certainly worth a visit. The restaurant La Colombe d'Or is also full of art, having struck a deal with both Picasso and Matisse that allowed them to pay for food with their work.

With endless stylish bars, chic surroundings and beautiful beaches in places like Cannes, Eze, Monaco and Menton, there's a myriad of options for enjoying your stay in your sun-drenched holiday home - and unlike most resorts, much of the Côte d'Azur stays open in winter.

Food and Drink of the French Rivierva

The food of the French Riviera shares its culinary tradition with the rest of Provence, with garlic, olive oil, herbs, goats cheese and other fabulous local produce informing much of its cuisine. With enticing food markets across the region, during your stay in our Côte d'Azur luxury villa you can spend idyllic afternoons food shopping and cooking your own French classics.
