The local area
Morzine is a world-class resort in both summer and winter, located in the Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France and the gateway to the Portes du Soleil ski region. With traditional slate-roofed wooden chalets prettily lining the Dranse River, the town itself has retained its character and charm, while having all the facilities and nightlife you would expect from a modern resort.
Our Morzine luxury chalet can be found in the attractive and peaceful hamlet of Montriond, the perfect hideaway from the busyness of Morzine and only ten minutes from the ski lifts. With access to the largest ski area in Europe, this unspoilt corner of the Alps is a great place to unwind after days spent out on the slopes.
The History of Morzine
Morzine began attracting tourists in the 1930s, with the first cable car being installed in 1934. It's grown ever since then, with the appeal of winter sports and summer excursions across the region proving irresistible for visitors from across the globe. Before this, Morzine was a small farming and mining town, formed centuries ago as one of the agricultural centres that provided monks in the nearby Aulps Abbey with food, building materials and clothes. Giving the village a pleasingly historic air, Montriond itself has a picturesque church and traditional Alpine architecture.
What to See and Do in Morzine
The Portes du Soleil ski region has more than 650 km of marked pistes and around 200 lifts, with such a variation of ski routes that everyone can enjoy a winter holiday here - from complete beginner to consummate expert - making the area particularly popular with families. For seasoned skiers and snowboarders, more challenging slopes can be found at nearby Avoriaz, and there's a lake at Montriond that the adventurous can go ice diving in, which is a truly unique and stunning experience.
There are plenty of reasons to visit our Morzine luxury chalet in the summer months as well, such as the resorts Olympic sized swimming pool. You can also enjoy mountain biking, hiking and caving here, as well as a few rounds of golf when you're looking something a little more relaxed.
French Food and Drink
The food of the Rhône-Alpes is hearty and traditional. Delicious, locally produced meat and cheese feature heavily, and fondue is the most iconic of all Alpine dishes. In early January you can head out to the local bakeries and find glazed pastries topped with paper crowns called Les Gateau des Rois, a tradition that dates back to the 14th century. These are perfect when whisked back to our Morzine luxury chalet and enjoyed at your leisure, as is the delectable Savoyard wine.
