With the Indian Ocean to the south and Atlantic to the west, Western Cape is the most mountainous of South Africa's provinces, fringed in sandy beaches and swathed in vineyards. These contrasting landscapes merge to form an utterly stunning region. The History of the Western Cape, South Africa

Western Cape in its modern form has only existed since 1993, when the Cape Province was divided into three, but the history of this area goes back millennia, and is home to one of South Africa's most important historical sites. Klipgat Cave is in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve near Gansbaai and was home to generations of early humans. Some of the oldest human fossils ever discovered were found here, and to explore the cave is to see the same sights as some of humanity's most ancient ancestors.

What to See and Do in the Western Cape

You could spend months in the Western Cape and still not see everything this culturally rich and beautifully scenic area has to offer. You can go hiking in nature reserves such as Kirstenbosch, explore the Cango Caves, take in the dark yet inspiring history of Robben island, spot penguins Boulders beach and still have an endless list of must-sees to tick off the list.

There's also plenty of opportunity to simply relax in your luxury villa and soak up the sun. However one of the main attractions is the Winelands, featuring of some of the earliest European settlements set in beautiful surroundings. Driving through a countryside that contains Cape Dutch architecture adds to the pleasure that can be experienced during the many tasting tours - and the wine is world class too.

Whether you decide to cook for yourself using local produce in our luxury villa, or head out to the many excellent restaurants in the surrounding area, the culinary vibrancy here will delight any food lover. Cape Malay curry, bobotie, bunny chow and shisa nyama are just a few of the local dishes that will give you an insight into this diverse cooking culture.
