Sheltered within the storybook landscape of Nendaz, the year-old Four Valleys Spa at the Hôtel Nendaz 4 Vallées casts a curative spell, from its thermal pools to treatments based on indigenous herbs, such as mountain apricot and golden arnica. Alpine-style décor pervades: wooden beams, granite floors and timber features, such as a faux forest bordering the pathway that leads to the saunas and pools. Paying homage to Nendaz's unique network of 98km of water-carrying bisses or irrigation canals, the spa features a water channel that runs through it, creating an authentic Alpine feel.

Head straight for the outdoor heated infinity pool and take a dip while gazing at the remarkable Alps. The steam rising from the pool and merging with the fog make the mountain views even more astonishing. After, take your pick and make use of the steam bath, saunas, salt room, ice room or Jacuzzi. And if all that doesn't put a spring back in your step, you can book relaxing treatments from a sumptuous chocolate massage to a mountain apricot exfoliation scrub. If you need a break in between treatments, perch on one of the tree trunk stools fronting a fireplace.

The seven treatment rooms are well equipped while the therapists, well-trained and conscientious. The spa is open from 9am to 9pm so there's plenty of time to enjoy the amenities on top of a treatment or two.
