After spending 15 years living in Asia, Ian Douglas and his family returned home ready to shape a new chapter of travel. They initially considered buying a holiday home, but quickly realised they didn't want to be tied to just one place. Joining The Hideaways Club in 2017 gave them something far more valuable - choice, flexibility, and access to great ski spots, which was a deciding factor for the whole family.
Ian, his wife, and their two sons - now 24 and 21 - still prioritise travelling together, and skiing remains the one holiday everyone eagerly agrees to. "It's something the boys have always loved," Ian says. "It's one of the few trips your kids never need persuading to join." The family typically enjoys two ski holidays each year, making the most of the Club's well-located alpine homes and the on-the-ground support from local teams.
One of their favourite destinations is Les Gets; a resort they return to whenever they can. "It just works for us," Ian says. "Great skiing, beautiful surroundings, and everything runs effortlessly." A recent trip brought the biggest snowfall in more than two decades. "Incredible powder!" Ian smiles. "The kind of conditions you hope for every time."
While skiing is central to their travel calendar, variety is just as important. The family also enjoys time in the South of France and regularly returns to Kalkan in Turkey, another firm favourite due to the villa's close proximity to the old fishing town and its amenities. This year's plans include Chamonix and an Italian road trip to a friend's wedding in Rome, with time spent in the Hideaways' home in Tuscany after the celebration.
With their sons now adults - and the eldest soon able to travel independently through the Club - Ian sees their membership evolving alongside family life.
Looking back, Ian is glad they made the decision to join the Club.
"We didn't just want a holiday home. We wanted a proper Club, and experiences. The Hideaways Club gives us the freedom to keep discovering new places and the time to enjoy them together."
