National Coach Museum

The National Coach Museum (Museu dos Coches) in Lisbon is a unique cultural attraction dedicated to historic royal carriages used from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Founded in 1905, it showcases an impressive collection of ornately decorated coaches once used by Portuguese royalty and nobility for ceremonies and diplomatic occasions. The craftsmanship, with gold detailing and painted scenes, highlights the elegance and status of the era.

The museum is split between a modern building and the former royal riding school, offering an interesting contrast as you explore Lisbon's history through its ceremonial transport.
