Ericeira
Ericeira is a picturesque coastal town located about 40-50 minutes from Lisbon, known for its traditional charm and status as one of Europe's leading surf destinations. It is a designated World Surfing Reserve, with consistent Atlantic waves and a variety of world-class surf breaks along its coastline.
The town has kept its authentic identity, with whitewashed houses, blue details, cobbled streets and a relaxed fishing village atmosphere. Despite its popularity, it remains more traditional and laid-back than many other coastal resorts.
Ericeira is especially famous for its beaches and surf spots such as Ribeira d'Ilhas, Coxos and São Lourenço, which attract surfers from around the world throughout the year. Even for non-surfers, the dramatic cliffs, ocean viewpoints and coastal walks make it a beautiful place to explore.
In the historic centre, you will find seafood restaurants, cafés and traditional bakeries. One of the local specialities is the "ouriços" pastry, a sweet treat named after the sea urchin (ouriço do mar), often enjoyed in Ericeira's bakeries alongside coffee while overlooking the sea.
Ericeira offers a perfect combination of surf culture, natural beauty and authentic Portuguese coastal life, making it an ideal half-day or full-day escape from Lisbon.
