Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez with Classic Charters

Racing the Riviera

This is Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the most evocative classic regatta in the world, and with Classic Charters, you can be on the start line.

Each September, as the light softens over the Mediterranean and the crowds thin to a knowing few, the port of Saint-Tropez transforms.

Carbon-sleek racers glide past century-old wooden yachts; champagne corks echo across the quay; varnished teak and brass brightwork gleam beneath a Provençal sun.

Racing aboard JAVELIN

There is something unmistakably romantic about stepping aboard a yacht launched in 1897.

JAVELIN - 22.35 metres of lean, elegant history - was built by Summers & Payne and has been meticulously refitted for modern racing. Her mahogany hull slices cleanly through the swell; her teak decks glow honey-gold in the late afternoon light. She is the kind of yacht that turns heads before she even leaves the dock.

But, this is no museum piece. With space for up to eight guests to race each day, JAVELIN offers an accessible yet genuinely thrilling entry into classic regatta sailing. Under the guidance of an experienced, welcoming crew, you trim sails, feel the tension in the sheets, and lean into the rhythm of the race. The start gun fires; canvas fills; the fleet surges forward.

Lunch is taken aboard between races - simple, satisfying, and entirely appropriate to the occasion - before an afternoon run back toward Saint-Tropez. Once docked, chilled drinks appear, stories grow taller, and the harbour hums with celebration.

A refined alternative

Following the fleet on NINA

For those who prefer their regatta with a touch more languor, NINA Spirit of the Wind offers front-row seats without the spray.

Built in 1964 by the renowned Costaguta Shipyard in Chiavari, NINA embodies the quiet glamour of mid-century Italian design. Cedar-toned interiors, graceful lines, and beautifully preserved woodwork create an atmosphere that feels intimate and soulful. After eight years under the devoted stewardship of her owner, she has joined the Classic Charters fleet.

From NINA's deck, you follow the racing fleet in unhurried comfort. A champagne reception sets the tone; a refined three-course rosé lunch is served as sails flash across the horizon. When the heat rises, there is time for a refreshing swim before returning to port. As the fleet glides home in the golden hour, you host evening drinks against one of the Riviera's most theatrical backdrops.

Stabilisation, air conditioning, Starlink connectivity and modern systems ensure seamless comfort - yet the experience remains timeless. A luxe, social way to experience Les Voiles.

Hideaway at night

After the salt air and spectacle, retreat to one of The Hideaways Club's homes in the South of France.

Right in the heart of the Cote d'Azur with St Tropez only a short drive away, La Garde-Freinet feels unperturbed by the outside world. Here, Villa la Colline, a farmhouse painted cream with olive green doorways, invites slow evenings by the pool, rosé in hand, as cicadas hum and the sky deepens to indigo.

Further into the countryside, Villa Marianne sits among orchards, cypress trees and weeping willows near the village of Mollégès in Provence's Alpilles. Drive through a landscape of country houses, wildflowers and sweeping views, with the hills rising beyond.

The rhythm is effortless: Race hard. Celebrate well. Hideaway, completely.
