Monument to the Discoveries

  • Address: Monument to the Discoveries, Av. Brasília, 1400-038 Lisboa, Portugal

The Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) is a striking landmark in Lisbon's Belém district, built in 1960 to honour Portugal's Age of Discoveries and Henry the Navigator.

Shaped like a ship's prow, it features sculptures of historical figures facing the Tagus River, symbolising the country's maritime explorations. In front of it lies a large map showing the routes of Portuguese explorers around the world.

Visitors can also go to the top for panoramic views over Belém and the river. It pairs well with nearby attractions and adds historical context to the area.
