Museu de São Roque is one of Lisbon's most important cultural landmarks, housed in the historic complex of the former Jesuit church of São Roque.
The museum is renowned for its exceptional collection of Portuguese sacred art, offering a rich overview of religious heritage from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Its galleries feature paintings, sculpture, goldwork, reliquaries, and textiles, many originally associated with the Church of São Roque itself.
A highlight of the visit is the opulent Chapel of St John the Baptist, considered one of the most extraordinary examples of Baroque art in Europe. The museum combines historical architecture with carefully curated collections, providing a quiet, contemplative atmosphere in the heart of Lisbon's Chiado district.
